I love Kickstarter

Unless you've been living underneath a rock, in a parallel universe where they dont have fun things or have been imprisioned in Arkham Asylum for the last year and a bit, you must have heard of Kickstarter.
Kickstarter is a site where people can help creators and publishers of things in the funding department by giving them some cash to help get the project off the ground and in return getting the product and some cool extras. Its through this wonderful site (and Indiegogo) that some of the coolest projects of this Wargaming year have been made possible.

Heres some of the projects that have been made possible thanks to this wonderous site.

Sedition Wars - Battle for Alabaster by Studio Mcvey and Cool Mini or Not

A boardgame in which the players either take control of the forces of Commander Kara Black and theVanguard or the Evil cybervirus zombie creatures of the Strain. The game is set aboard the deep space research station of Alabaster and will have a Aliens/Dead Space/Event Horizon feel to it. The miniatures are astounding to look at but what else do we expect from Mike and Ali Mcvey but the best? I'll be posting a great deal about this game as the month progresses because my copy is currently on its way!

Dark Heaven Legends - Bones by Reaper Miniatures

Now everyone likes their characters in RPGs to look awesome, even if your not a fan of miniatures on your gaming table. Well Reaper have always been one of the biggest companies in RPG miniatures and with their Kickstarter have managed to make getting all the Minis you need for your encounters cheaply. Bones is a new range by Reaper and replaces their old Pre-painted range with plastic polymer miniatures that dont break easily. If you managed to get in on the Kickstarter then lucky you, as their $100 level saw you getting nearly 300 miniatures! I missed the chance to get in on this Kickstarter but thanks to Reaper's website, I've pitched in my money and will be getting everything from the $100 level for my own.

Dreadball - the Futuristic Sports Game by Mantic Games

Tron meets Speedball in this fast paced bloodbowl-esque game from Mantic. Ever wanted to have american football style matches of Orcs Vs Robots, Space Dwarves Vs Cthullhu creatures or Ratmen Vs intelligent Chimpanzees? Well if you had before this then you would definetly be commited to a padded room. Dreadball looks a bit like Bloodbowl by Games Workshop on the surface but its play mechanics, universe, teams and other aspects are completely different. I didn't manage to get in on this Kickstarter but I am definetly interested in getting a team for it once its been released.

So those are the best examples in my opinion for why Kickstarter is awesome. There are a few more really cool ones that I just couldnt afford such as:

Kings of War by Mantic Games
The Judge Dredd Miniatures Game: Block War by Mongoose Publishing
Zombicide by Guilotine Games and Cool Mini or Not
Relic Knights by Soda Pop Miniatures and Cool Mini or Not
Red Box Games' Fantasy Miniatures by Red Box Games

So there we go. If your looking for funding in the age of the computer, just try Kickstarter!

First update since the 39th Millennia! (or at least it feels like it)

What can I say, its been a whirlwind of a year but now Im back and am actually going to post something! Oh Great Cthullhu, he might actually do it I hear you cry? well, you'd be right. The reason I stopped doing this blog was because the RPG accounts were very time consuming and no matter how much I try to cut down on the amount of stuff I was writing, there was always more detail (I will be posting the end of Dark Heresy on here soon, but there probably wont be any more RPG logs for a while). So for the minute as Im not regularly playing (which brings a tear to my cheek as dust gathers on my D20s), I'll actually be posting on things that are relevant to the name of the blog... yes, WARGAMES! Woohoo! Expect pictures and new thing as they arrive/get painted/blow up on the tabletop.

And to get the ball rolling, here's a list of things that are on my Wargames Agenda for the next couple of weeks.

Firstly, Sunday will be my friendly neighborhood Wargames Club all day event, in which I will be playing some 40K and also marauding on the High Seas with some newly painted pirate miniatures (pictures on the way) in the club-member created game of YAAAAARGH!! Yes, that name is awesome, bet you wish you'd thought of it first.
One of the Scurvy Dogs with just base coats done. More on him and the rest later.

Next up this month will be an overview of some of the projects that I have on the go at the moment, including Mordheim warbands/Warhammer Quest heroes and monsters, My log on my progress in building the wonderful boardgame of Super Dungeon Explore! which I only have a few miniatures left to build and is ready for a play through and...
Super Dungeon Explore!

Finally this month I will (hopefully) recieve my copy of Sedition Wars - Battle for Alabaster! which i've been waiting tobe released and shipped to me since the Kickstarter ended. I'll be doing a Progression log through my unboxing and building of all those wonderful Strain creatures and Vanguard troopers.

For now, Heres a picture to keep you interested..

The long awaited pictures of my (repainted) Adeptus Arbites Gang from Necromunda.

A View Into The Warp - Update and Teaser of Things to Come

Hail Children of Technology!

Tis I, Redbranch, Here to bring you a small update (namely because i havn't done one in months!)

I have been quite busy recently as the end of my college year is approaching and im in a rush to get everything done in time. But, i know, excusses excusses..

I will be accounting the handful of Dark Heresy games that I have ran since last time (this time, probably in a breif overview) and start accounting the ones that I will be running over the coming weeks. Also, I have decided that this year i shall focus more on 2 games in particular. The first being Necromunda, one of the games that i started this blog for and Inquisitor, playing at a 28mm instead as it has more options for conversions and other things. So let me just say that I will try to update as often as I do anything for these games.

Speaking of which, I will post pictures of my newly re-painted Adeptus Arbites gang and I will also link a post to my Yakromunda gang log so that you can see in detail what my gang have been up to. Also, there is one more thing that i need to say in this post and that is that i have 3 new players that have joined Randolf Tideman and Sister Opheilia (who now both have some ret-cons and new backstories, that shall also be posted in the near future) in the fight against the enemies of the imperium.

First is Red (played by Aaron, our WFRP 2nd edition and CP2020 GM), called so because his Adeptus Mechanicus assigned code is too long to be used as a name. He is a Tech-Priest and has had been the lynchpin in the success of the last couple of missions, as his technical skills have proven more than useful.

Secondly is Codename: Nihilus and (enter Adept name here) (both played by Richard, a member of our WFRP party and a good friend of mine). Originally he created Nihilus, an assassin but after playing the character for two games desided that the party needed more players who could do the more knoledgable side of Dark Heresy and not another blade for hire. His second character, (enter adept name here), has yet to show off his extensive knowledge of different lores but will have plenty chance to during the upcoming games.

Lastly is (enter feral worlder name here)(player by Ashley, Richard's GF and maybe the newest but is certainly competent enough for Dark Heresy). She has been a good asset to the party in combat and can definetly be a great asset when it comes to hunting and tracking in future games.

All three of these players have played 2 games of Dark Heresy but there are a few more that still need accounting and i will do so over the coming weeks as well as giving you updates on the parties escapades as the work to save the imperium from threats within and without!

Right, i think thats me done for tonight, I'll photograph those Arbites some time in the week and post the pictures up here as soon as ive done so.

But until then, May your blades be Enriched with Deeds of Violence!

Snow and Steel - Barbarian Warriors of Chaos Update

Hail, Children of Technology!

Tis I, Redbranch, here to bring you tales from the Bards of Norsca about their Deeds of Violence!

Well, after posting the first lot of Barbarian based minis last week and inspired by the wintery weather outside my window, I thought that it was about time that I showed you the leaders of the Fur Clad, Axe Weilding Marauders of the north.

Firstly we have Hrothgar Greymane, Barbarian Warlord of Jarl Icingaard

As you can see from the Photo above, He absolutely towers over the rank and file marauders which is what I wanted in a warlord. The model is the Avatars of War Marauder Warlord and fits perfectly into my army. In game, he will could as a Chaos Lord with Two Hand Weapons and im not sure what magic items yet. The base is made from several pieces of slate stacked on top of each other and when painted will have Icicles hanging off it.

Next we have Queen Ilsa Frostheart, Ice Sorceress and Half Elf Queen to the Jarl Icingaard

She is the Reaper Miniatures Ice Queen and I think she fits the army pretty well. In game she will count as a Socerer with the Lore of Fire (Lore of Ice) and as with Hrothgar, i have not thought of what Magic items she shall have yet. She shall be accompanied by the first unit of Marauders with Wulferik Greymane.

Next we have Magni Wolfborn, Elder Skald to Jarl Icingaard

This conversion is of the Ar-Ulric model from way back in the days of Storm of Chaos. When I got the model, he didn't have any arms. So, using some leftover marauder bits i created this pose with his one hand resting on his axe and the other raised in the air as he reaches the climactic cresendo of his battlesong . As you can see from the pictures, his arm was recently replaced for the fist in the air. He did have a staff but i didnt think it looked right. In game he shall represent a Sorcerer with the Lore of Death (Songs of Battles). He shall be put into one of the units of marauders for protection.

Next we have Thorvald the Kinslayer

He is the Avatars of War Marauder Champion model and has recently had this head swapped for the unhelmeted version as i thought it looked better. In game he shall represent a Exalted Champion and shall accompany Magni's unit of Marauders into battle.

Finally (for now at least) we have Wulferik Greymane, Son of Hrothgar Greymane

Heres a Group Shot

Another Avatars of War model, he is the Barbarian Hero so as his name says, he fits in perfectly. There is a slight size difference between him and the other Combat characters but his background will explain that he is only just of age. He shall represent another Exalted Champion and shall be put within the first unit of Marauders with Ilsa Frostheart.

I am currently looking for another Sorcerer character to represent the lore of shadow and a mounted Lord to represent Jarl Icingaard and to join my Marauder Horsemen unit (maybe this guy, but with a different rider http://banelegions.maelstromgames.co.uk/?tag=bnl-020) as well as some other Barbarian heroes just for the fun of painting them, i do love Barbarians.

If you would like to get your paws on any of the miniatures featured here or want to have a look at the companies that produced them then heres the links to go look at:

All the Backgrounds and Fluff for the army shall be posted sometime during the week and maybe some pictures of one of these guys finished if i get chance to pick up my brushes. There shall also be a Dark Heresy report from the game yesterday and several Battle Reports from the Dark Underhive of Necromunda, It shall be a busy week indeed!

Until then, Keep your Blades enriched with Deeds of Violence!

The Boon of Tzeentch - Changes and Miniature Pictures Finally!

Hail, Children of Technology!
Tis I, Redbranch, here to bring you some Snapshots of Violence from the land of the young!

Its been all go on this blog the last 2 days and you may have seen a few changes, if not, then welcome all the same. First new thing is the lovely banner that is now lining the top of my page, made by me yesterday as i really felt that the page needed a good banner.

Secondly, you may notice that there is a lovely new section called pages to the left of this box. Well ladies and gentlemen, i felt that it had been long enough that i hadn't posted some miniatures onto this site, so if you click on any one of them it shall take you to one of the 3 new pages that i have set up to display my armies and models. the first is my current 40k army, The Emperor's Children. This army is an ongoing thing that has been made my focus in 40k so expect it to be teeming with bizzare sights and tintilating wonder as the power and magesty of Slaanesh takes a new part of your soul as you gaze at every new image. Dont dwell there long, as it is said that daemons most powerful lurk within the gleaming jewels waiting to rend and despoil at any given moment (as you shall find out very soon, does the name Juan Diaz ring any bells?).

The next link contains the log of my fur clad, axe weilding, bearded northerners known across the old world for their seafaring, pillaging and general wanton destruction of the southern men. Yes, the norsemen are loose and only the blood of an Emperor or last breath of a Tzar will sate their bloodlust. The Marauder themed Warriors of Chaos army that i have been working on for 3 years has finally got one unit finished! I have plans in hand to bring these Barbarians into 8th edition and so you should check that log out to see what they are, if you dare to face the true masters of the north that is?

The final log is a look into the eye's of Tzeentch itself and see the ever changing collection of random miniatures that i have floating round on my workbench at any given time. this log will contain an assortment of GW miniatures, old and new, as well as several other companies that i like. This will be the place to go to see any Necromunda miniatures (once they've had a re-paint), BloodBowl, Hordes/Warmachines, Malifaux, Gorkamorka, Mordheim, Inquisitor and many more games. There will also be work by me on there that i have painted just for the hell of it and it is the current location of my 40k Orks army (for now at least).

So its been all go here the last 2 days and dont expect me to let up any time soon. I'll leave you now with a little sneak peak at an army i'll be doing in the near future (as soon as i can get a new bracket for my air compressor)..

Look familliar to any of you Long Beards out there? well you'll have to wait a while at least to see the who lot of 'em.

Until then, Keep your Blades enriched with Deeds of Violence!

Hold It Right There Perp! - Necromunda Report and Something Horrorificly Zaney....

Hail, Children of Technology!

Tis I, Redbranch, Bringing you tales of violence from the last 2 weeks in Tir-Nan-Og!

I've been very pre-occupied with the running of my Dark Heresy campaign that my Necromunda reports have been on a back burner the last 2 weeks. Throne above, please forgive me for such a blasphemy! so lets step back from the world of RPG for this update and delve back into the lovely world of Skirmish mayhem in the Underhive! but first... something is stirring on the cobblestones of a victorian town. Yes, you guessed right! I bought my first Malifaux gang after about 6 months of promising myself that i would. Wyrd Miniatures and their lovely card-based Skirmish game based around Steam Punk Sorcerers, Zombie Burlesque dancers and Gremlin Yokels is a brilliant and exciting change for many gamers. The system works by replacing the concept of using a die for doing actions with a deck of cards and can prove for a very exciting and really unpredictable game. The game uses its own 4 different suites and each suit could activate different triggers and effects on your gang. For more information on the Chaotic Horror Punk stylings of Malifaux or just to take a gander at their wonderful miniatures, Head on over to http://www.malifaux.com/ , and who knows who you'll meet on the cobblestone streets some time soon!

Speaking of Malifaux, the Gang that i bought is Sonya Cridd and her Witchhunters. The idea of witchhunters has always apealled to me and you may hear in future of different exploits of my Witchhunter Mordheim gang (which is still under construction!). I have made and undercoated the 5 models provided in the kit and used Model Display Product Cobblestone bases on them (When i went to pick up a set of bases and a 54mm model produced by them, from Firestorm Games in Cardiff, the Sculpter of the Bases and Miniatures, Steve Buddle was there. A very nice man indeed and i recommend the company if you like detailed 54mm Fantasy miniatures or fantastic bases! Check out their range at http://www.modeldisplayproducts.co.uk/). I played a game 2 weeks ago using them and i have to say, it was very fun. My friend who has the Delaque Cowboys is also a Malifaux player and we decided that we shall would have a game, Him using his Victorias gang (a Gang run by twin sisters that seem to excell in all things combat). The game is very fast paced and works in a similar way to Hordes and Warmachines, with activations but alternating between the players for each activation, making for a very tactical style of game. i however, highly underestimated the power of my gang and held back in the first few turns which gave my opponent a chance to out-manuvour me and eventually, kill off Sonya and her Witchling Stalkers. I shall not intend to make the same mistake twice, i tell you now!

Last week I found another player willing to participate in the small Necromunda campaign that seems to be ongoing. Vandalworks on here or Big Kev as i know him and his Wrestling themed Goliath gang! (check out his blog http://theevandalists.blogspot.com/ to see all things Space Marine related and maybe some BloodBowl action! you might even catch some photo's of Me and my Emperor's Children, im the one with the long hair). Anyway, we cracked on with a gang war game. I took the first turn and set my Arbites into two small squads either side of the board while Kev set his men up in the massive building on his side of the board. My first two turns were a mixture of movement and avoiding being cut to pieces by a Bounty Hunter with a hotshot lasgun. The Next two turns, things seemed to be going in my favour as i downed a took out 3 members of his gang with bolt pistols, then 1 more from falling out of a building. Things were going so well until Kev managed to turn it round and took out my Sergeant and Handler in one turn and downed my Cyber-Mastiff, forcing me to take a bottle check. I failed the check and in the injury rolls my handler was CAPTURED! a rescue mission shall commence on monday to free him. i really enjoyed this game as it was the first necromunda game in a few weeks and Kevin was a good opponent. I look forward to my games on monday, where i shall first have to rescue my handler from the clutches of B.A. Billygun and his friends, then there will be Blood on the Streets as Necromunda becomes the battlefield for a threeway game, Delaque, Goliath and Arbites. Who will come out on top? stay tuned to me and you'll find out!

Those of you that follow my content on Games (the site that i have linked at the top of my page) will know that i have written a 4 part story for Gamers creator Kasey. Flintlocke is the tale of Pirates and Perils on the high seas with captain William Harken, aka Flintlocke Bill! Well look out adventurers as Captain Harken shall return very soon with the next part of the story, Voyage of a Damned Man! Keep a look out for that and if you want to help the site grow or just add content, then feel free to contact Kasey and She'll help to make your geeky things shown on the internet-ermabob!

so Dark Heresy on Sunday, Necromunda on Monday, Something else on Wednesday (maybe WoW RPG?) looks like next weeks going to be full!

So until next time, Keep your Blades enriched with Deeds of Violence!

The Baraspine Account - A Dark Heresy Adventure part two

Hail Children of Technology!

Tis I, Redbranch, here to bring you my tales of Dark Heresy Violence from the land of the young!

Let us get straight back to DH seeing as i said i would update a week ago and we've had another game since then..

The Acolytes travelled pretty swiftly from the underhive, using the Adepta Transportica station and headed to the mid hive. The mid hive was mostly Manufactorum buildings creating the large amount of Cogitator Chips that the planet exports as part of its Tithe. At the centre of the mid hive is the Chapel Ministorum, a large and ostentatious building that was the acolytes next stop. There they found the Priests and missionaries of the Chapel were preparing for a Holy Day dedicated to Saint Drusus (one of the Saints of the Calixis Sector). There they confronted Cardinal Augustus Ranus who didn't have a clue why those messages hadn't got through and swiftly presented copies of the messages to the Acolytes. Stumped at this outcome the agents headed to the Adeptus Administratum complex in the upper hive. After several more hours travel, the agents finally reached the complex where they proceeded straight to the Executive Administratum Adept's Office and confronted Bavarus "Brian" Voxman; The booming voiced man, smartly dressed and surrounded by luxury, and questioned him on his knowledge of terrorist threats. He responded by telling them that they should see different people from around the Adeptus Administratum complex. At this point the Acolyte known as Darion Pierce was called away for a questionable assignment elsewhere on the planet(In real life, Alun, the player of Darion did not show up for the next session due to coursework but i will make up for the fact that he missed a few games by offering him the chance to do a solo mission for a particular Ordo that he seemed to show alot of interest in).
After talking to 3 different adepts (Nils Greymourne, Baroness Lao Chi Quan and Commander Marcus Constantine), the adepts found themselves with some information. They found out that before imperial colonisation of the planet, there was a group that controlled the planetary leaders from the shadows. When Imbram Garret and the 52nd Mordian Iron Guard came and took the planet in the name of the Emperor, this organisation (known as The Violet Shadow) were thought to be dead or that they never even existed in the first place. 2 of the people that the acolytes talked to didn't even believe in the existence of the Violet Shadow and told them that they were chasing a old wife's tale but one in particular took a great amount of interest in the Violet Shadow. Marcus Constantine, Baraspine's Planetary Defence Commander and Administratum Adept was convinced that the Violet Shadow were still out there and that the acolytes should keep an eye on Augustus Ranus. Constantine seemed to take a great dislike for the Ecclesiarchy Cardinal and made sure that the Acolytes understood that Ranus was not to be trusted. Before leaving the Administratum complex, the adepts made sure that they would not be sleeping rough again and had Voxman give them permission to take over an apartment overlooking Garret's Rise.

The Next day saw that a event that was called The Grand Baazar outside of the Chapel Ministorum, where thousands of different vendors gathered to sell their wares to the visitors of the Chapel. Tideman managed (after some "hot debate" with the stall owner) to pick up an Armageddon Pattern Autogun with bayonette, 2 Microbeads, an Auspex and a pair of Magnoculars. After a few hours of browsing the stalls and insulting the vendors, the party headed inside. when inside, Tideman broke into the office of Ranus and in the draw of his desk Tideman found a hitlist written on a piece of paper with the other half of the Administratum printing mark implicating Baroness Lao Chi Quan. When Opheilia and Tideman confronted Ranus, he told them that he had never scene the paper or the hitlist before as he had aquired the desk from Baroness Lao Chi Quan. The Adepts raced to her office to find her absent from work. Her secretary told the acolytes that the Baroness was at her personal holdings in the Spire and woundn't be recieving anyone unless they have a appointment with her.

Bending the arm of her secutary the Acolytes secured a appointment with the Baroness and raced to her estate to confront her on their findings. They found her estate and made their way past her personal guard and butler and after some snappy and impatient conversations with the Baroness they realised that they had very little evidence to implicate her. The paper was to be found in the thousands in her office and the desk had been given away weeks ago. Very confused and slightly frustrated that their deadended investigation, the Acolytes headed back to their occomodation and settled down for a night of rest and just as the sun was about to go down behind the horison, the sky turned Violet.

slightly freaked out by the atmospheric effect, the acolytes set about smoking and praying to the god Emperor. things were very peaceful until Tideman noticed a group of people standing near the statue of Imbram Garret. Calling out to Ophelia in the other room, Tideman grabbed his shotgun and spun only to see three figures in black bodygloves and fullface respirators. "The Violet Dawn Shall Rise" said the first Assassin and was met with the responce of with a las burn from Tideman's Las Pistol. The return fire caught Tideman in the leg, wounding him but they would not escape the wrath of a Sororitas Bolt Pistol! The bolter round from Ophelia caused so much damage that in the blast it outrightly killed two Assassins and knocked out the other. The out cold assassin was then dragged into the room, tied up by Tideman and then woken up to be interogated but no matter what Tideman said or threatened, the only thing the man could say was "The Violet Dawn Shal Rise". Assumptions of brainwashing and a knife wound to the leg later, the captive enemy bled out and left the Acolytes with 3 corpses. on the bodies, the managed to find a map to where they thought would be the meeting point after they had been dealt with. they proceeded to take the assassin's bodygloves and respirators and headed to the location, a nearby alleyway. once there they managed to spot the hidden entrance and find the Snake Bite gangers inside who directed them further in. Managing to get into the main chamber of the secret hideout, the acolytes were supprised to find Augustus Ranus, Nils Greymourne, Baroness Quan and two others, Princep Varakov of the Mechanicum Foundaries in Hive Primarius and "Razor" Macgraw, leader of the Snake Bites and Underworld Crimeboss. Disguised as the brainwashed assassins of the Violet Dawn, the Acolytes had sucessfully inflitrated a worldwide terrorist cell. After collecting their gear from the apartment, they headed straight for the Adeptus Administratum complex and informed Marcus Constantine of the locations of the Violet Dawn. They were told to evacuate the city before the widespread violence insued and were swiftly aboard the Arvus Lighter that had taken them down the planet.

So ends the Baraspine Account. Interregator Zane Lazerus, Custodian of The Infinity and Trusted Inquisitorial Agent compiled the report that was then sent to Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Astrid Skane on the Acolytes completion. Their next mission will take the Acolytes to the frontier world of Marioch on the borders of the Adrantis sub sector, where local people seem to be going missing under mysterious curcumstances.

Hope you enjoyed this recounting of the last Dark Heresy adventure and stay tuned for more from Sister Ophelia and Randolf Tideman in the future as they get their next test to prove their worth as Acolytes of the Inquisition!

But, as always, Keep your Blades enriched with Deeds of Violence!
